Discover Belize & Tikal

Ancient ruins, jungle rivers, and Caribbean island life in one unforgettable week

This 8-day journey through Belize and neighbouring Guatemala packs in an extraordinary range of experiences. Cruise along jungle-lined rivers to centuries-old Maya temples, learn to cook traditional Mayan dishes from local women, cross into Guatemala to explore the monumental ruins of Tikal, and finish with laid-back island days on Caye Caulker — where the only schedule is the tide.

Why You'll Love This Trip

  • Cruise up the New River through the jungle to the ancient Maya city of Lamanai
  • Cook and share a traditional Mayan meal with women from a local cooperative in San Ignacio
  • Explore the towering temples of Tikal — one of the greatest Maya cities ever built
  • Wind down on Caye Caulker, a car-free Caribbean island where the motto is 'go slow'

Itinerary

Arrive in Belize City, the coastal former capital where the Belize River meets the Caribbean Sea. Meet your group leader and fellow travellers at the welcome gathering in the evening. If you arrive early, wander the waterfront, visit the coastal and maritime museum in the restored fire station, browse Belizean artwork at the Image Factory, or step inside St. John's Cathedral — the oldest Anglican church in Central America.

Hotel (1 night)

The welcome meeting begins at 6 pm. Please attend as important trip details and emergency information will be covered.

Head north by private vehicle to the riverside town of Carmelita, where you'll board a boat along the New River to the Lamanai archaeological site. The river journey itself is spectacular — your guide will help you spot colourful birds, iguanas, and possibly crocodiles along the forested banks. At Lamanai, explore weathered temples, royal palaces, and plazas that reveal centuries of Maya civilisation. Return by boat to the town of Orange Walk for the night.
